Itanagar:An Ex-Servicemen rally, aimed to express gratitude towards the retired service personnel for their contribution to the security of the Nation and to ascertain their well-being, was organized at Tawang in Arunachal Pradesh on Friday, Defence sources said on Saturday.
The event witnessed participation of approximately 100 ex-servicemen and next-of-kin (NOK) from Tawang and remote areas around. Tawang Deputy Commissioner KN Damo alongwith other civil dignitaries also attended the function.
The rally was organized with an aim of reaching out to maximum veterans and families and to have a more hands on approach to their issues.
While a Veteran Suvidha Kendra has been established in the premises of Tawang Brigade for day-to-day redressal of any grievances, the rally provided an excellent platform for the veterans and their families to interact with both military and civil agencies to help resolve their problems and to put forth their pending issues.
The Indian Army established various facilities such as Grievance Redressal Cell, Ex-Servicemen Cell, Unit Run Canteen, Education avenues available for dependents of Ex-Servicemen, Veterans Suvidha Kendra and SBI Cell where schemes of Government of India were informed to the Ex-Servicemen and assistance to fill forms was also rendered.
In addition, stalls from various Government organizations such as District Agriculture department, District Fisheries department, District Veterinary Officer and Defence Research Lab, Research & Development Centre, Tawang were also installed. Medical assistance and specialised guidance on treatment was provided by Army Medical Corps doctors. Medical check-up stations were also established in the area.
On the occasion, Commander, Tawang Brigade reiterated Indian Army’s unwavering dedication towards its retired fraternity and assured them of the sensitivity of the Government and the Army towards their needs. They were also assured that the Army would take every step possible to ensure that the ex-servicemen and their families are cared for and looked after well.
He also reiterated that the Army’s resolve of providing quality healthcare, dignity and problem resolution to its ex-servicemen and their families is unflinching while exhorting the ex-servicemen to continue contributing towards nation building.
The Tawang DC commended the Armed Forces for protecting the sovereignty, unity and integrity of the Nation with courage and promptness and reiterated that, it is the moral responsibility of all citizens of the Nation to come forward and support the soldiers and their families in a similar way.
He stated that through this contribution, citizens can contribute to the Armed Forces & their families and nation building as a whole.
The ex-servicemen laid wreaths at Tawang War Memorial and paid homage to the fallen heroes who made supreme sacrifice for the Nation. The president of Ex-servicemen on behalf of all retired soldiers conveyed his heartfelt gratitude to the Indian Army in systematically resolving the grievances faced by the veterans in quick time through multiple agencies during the rally.
