Shillong: Former Meghalaya Chief Minister and senior Trinamool Congress leader, Mukul Sangma’s helicopter had to abort its landing at Umroi airport due to bad weather on Monday and had to later land in Assam’s Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi international airport.

Sangma, who took off from Kharkutta assembly constituency after addressing an election rally at Adokgre area in support of his party candidate and former legislator, Cherak W. Momin, was supposed to address a press conference here in the state capital.

“Due to poor weather conditions in the original landing area within Shillong city and deliberate denial of landing permission at the Umroi Airport, Mukul Sangma’s chopper could not land compelling him to return back,” a TMC statement said.

Meanwhile, the press conference has been postponed to Tuesday at the State Party Office.
