Mumbai: Former Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Monday demanded that the Election Commission be dismissed and the election commissioner be appointed through elections.
Thackeray also asked everyone to unite against the Commission. Otherwise what is happening with Shiv Sena now. would happen with other parties later.
Addressing a press conference, Thackeray doubted whether elections would be held in the country after 2024.
“Everything has been stolen from me. The name and symbol of our party have been stolen, but the name ‘Thackeray’ cannot be stolen. We have moved the Supreme Court against the decision given by the Election Commission, the hearing will start tomorrow,” he said, alleging that the BJP was orchestrating the moves against his party.
Thackeray cautioned that the Shiv Sena was not created to “lick the palms” of the BJP.
He said the Election Commission’s decision to recognise Chief Minister Eknath Shinde’s group as the real Shiv Sena and allot the party’s traditional symbol of a bow and arrow to it was “wrong.”
“Basically, Election Commissioners are not elected but appointed A petition in this regard is pending in the Supreme Court. Not only this, when many cases against Shiv Sena are pending in the court, what was the need for the Election Commission to do all this in such a hurry?” he wondered.
The Election Commission has created all this mess only to make the proceedings going on in court more complicated.
Thackeray also said the decision has been given “in haste.”
