Imphal: Troops and Manipur seized drugs in three separate incidents on Tuesday.
In the first incident, Manipur Police personnel of Chakpikarong PS assisted by a team of Special Commando Unit Khabeisoi and a column of 43 Assam Rifles seized 2.273 kg of brown sugar and arrested five persons from the Inter village road of Chakpikarong and Gobok, who were coming in a truck.
Police said Seitinthang Haokip, Ngamminlun Guite, Seiminlun Guite, Doukhosei Mate and a minor boy were arrested and from them 186 soap cases weighing 2 kg 273 gram of brown sugar which were concealed inside the back of the seat of the truck along with four mobile phones, Cash amount of Rs 49,620 were seized from their possession.
In this regard, a case was registered at Chakpikarong PS for further necessary action.
In another incident at Khudengthabi, troops of Assam Rifles intercepted a two-wheeler. On a thorough search of the vehicle, 612 grams of brown sugar in 15 soap cases concealed inside the vehicle were recovered.
The recovered narcotics were assessed to be worth Rs 1.22 crores.
In yet another incident troops of Assam Rifles intercepted a drug peddler near the Indo-Myanmar border in Kamjong district. About 52 grams of brown sugar and Burmese currency were recovered from the drug peddler. The recovered narcotics were assessed to be worth over Rs 1 lakh.
The recovered items along with the drug peddlers were handed over to Manipur Police.
