Drug, timber seized in Manipur

An Assam Rifles official said its troops nabbed four persons who were moving from Moreh towards T’Minou in the border area.

Imphal: Troops of Assam Rifles on Saturday seized drug and smuggled timber in two separate incidents. 

An Assam Rifles official said its troops nabbed four persons who were moving from Moreh towards T’Minou in the border area.

From them 50 soap cases of Brown Sugar were recovered, weighing approximately 2.150 kilograms. The cost of seized brown sugar was Rupees 4.30 Crore in the international market.

The apprehended individuals along with recovered items were handed over to Moreh Police Station for further investigation.

In another incident Shangshak Battalion of Assam Rifles foiled timber smuggling at Koshu of Kamjong District.

Two loaded trucks were stopped and four other persons detained for smuggling illegal timber evaluated to be worth Rs 2.56 Crores.

The timber along with apprehended smugglers and vehicle along with driver were handed over to Forest department, Kamjong for further legal action.
