District admn takes charge of COVID-19 orphans in Mizoram’s Mamit district

Mamit: As part of the heightened efforts to rehabilitate children orphaned during the pandemic, the Mamit district administration has appealed to the general public in the district to inform it about kids who have become orphans or have lost one of their parents to Covid-19 after March 2020.

The Mamit district in a notification Tuesday informed that if any such children below 18 years of age are known with the district, the District Child Protection Unit (DCPU) or Child Welfare Committee (CWC) or CHILDLINE should be informed immediately so that the CWC and DCPU will be able to ensure the benefits announced by the Central government or State government could reach the children.

It further warned that no adoption of such children should be permitted in contrary to The Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015 or The Adoption Regulations 2017.

Moreover, any person or organizations taking advantage of the dire situation of such orphan children are prevented from collecting funds/donations in the name of the affected children. Stringent action shall be taken by the authorities against such individual or organization that is responsible for indulging in such illegal activity, it added.
