Lima: Peru’s Congress swore in Vice President Dina Boluarte as the country’s new president, complying with the line of succession, after voting to impeach Pedro Castillo for alleged “permanent moral incapacity.”
“I, Dina Ercilia Boluarte Zegarra, swear by God, by the homeland and by all Peruvians, that I will faithfully exercise the office of President of the Republic that I assume in accordance with the Political Constitution of Peru, from this moment until July 26, 2026,” she said.
The new Peruvian president made her statement during a swearing in ceremony convened by Congress, which dismissed Castillo on Wednesday with 101 votes in favor, six against and 10 abstentions.
