Bhubaneswar: Union Minister of Education and Skill Development Dharmendra Pradhan has requested Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik to intervene personally for the expeditious implementation of the PM SVAMITVA (Survey of villages and mapping with improvised technology in village areas.) in the state, it was reported on Saturday.

Pradhan said there are many inhabited villages in the country including in Odisha where a survey of land has not yet been done. So many owners of the property in rural areas do not have requisite legal documents for their property.

The PM SVAMITVA scheme was launched in April 2020 to establish the ownership of property in rural areas by mapping land parcels using drone technology and provide records of rights to village household owners.

In a letter to Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, the Union Minister said the scheme has already been implemented in 7,565 villages in the states of Maharashtra, Haryana, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Goa, Andhra Pradesh and Andaman Nicobar islands. More than 22 lakh property cards have been prepared to date.

He said the Odisha government has signed an MoU with the Survey of India in February 2021 and its implementation is in progress in Rayagada on a pilot basis.

Describing the many advantages of the scheme, Mr Pradhan said the activities need to be ramped up and the state needs to permit the continuously operating reference station expeditiously to facilitate the survey.

He said it is the dream of Prime Minister Modi to free the village property land or home ownership records from uncertainty, mistrust and realise the potential of the rural landed assets which can be fully utilised for development and urged the Chief Minister for the speedy implementation of the scheme in the state.
