Washington: The New York Times said on Sunday that it was very saddened to learn about the death of the US journalist Brent Renaud near the Ukrainian capital of Kiev, but added that he was not on any assignment for the newspaper there.
“We are deeply saddened to hear of the Brent Renaud’s death. Brent was a talented photographer and filmmaker who had contributed to The New York Times over the years. Although he had contributed to the Times in the past (most recently in 2015), he was not on assignment for any desk at the Times in Ukraine,” the public relations department of the newspaper wrote on Twitter.
According to the statement, Renaud was wearing a journalist press badge, which had been issued to him by the New York Times “many years ago.”
