Aizawl: On the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, Tourism Department in association with Mizoram Cycling Association organised a Cycling Competition – Tour de Hmuifang today morning.
Flagging off the event from Mualpui Zero Point, Pu TC Pachhunga, Vice Chairman, Tourism, Sports & ICT Development said that the pandemic has hit the tourism industry very hard and this event could help promote tourism in the state.
Seventy-two cyclists from Aizawl, Lunglei, Kolasib, Champhai, Serchhip and Saitual Districts took part in the event. The event was organised in two categories – Below 35 Years Category and Above 35 Years Category.

In the Below 35 Years Category Mesak Vanlalvena of Sihfa clocked the 53 kilometres trip in 2 hours 14 minutes breaking his own previous record of 2 hours 20 minutes which he made last year and stood first.
Malsawmkima of Chhippir with a time of 2:23 hours came in second while the third position was going to Lalruatfela of Bawngkawn with timing of 2:25 hours.
In the Above 35 Years Category, Lallawmsanga of Mission Veng clocked the trip in 2:35 hours and stood first. David Rualzakhuma of Saron Veng, with a timing of 2:42 hours earned the second position while R Lalhmachhuana of Champhai stood third with a time 2:47 hours.
Fifty-two-year-old Dr Malsawmkima, was the oldest competitor while 12-year-old Lalramluahpuia Zote was the young participant.
Tourism Minister Pu Robert Romawia Royte has announced on an earlier occasion that Tour de Hmuifang would be held annually.
