Jaunpur (UP) :A history sheeter was arrested in an encounter with the police in Chandwak area of Jaunpur district here in Uttar Pradesh, a senior police officer said here on Thursday.
Additional Superintendent of Police (City) Brajesh Kumar Gautam said that late on Wednesday night while Inspector of Chandwak police station Vijay Shankar Singh along with personnel was checking vehicles he received information that a criminal was fleeing towards Hariharpur after firing on the police team.
He said that acting on the information the Inspector along with his team chased the criminal in Hariharpur. “On being chased the criminal opened fire and the bullet hit the bulletproof jacket of Inspector Vijay Shankar and in retaliatory firing he too sustained bullet injury,” he said.
He said that a country made pistol and a .32 revolver along with cartridges were recovered from the criminal identified as Abhishek Singh, a resident of Brahmanpur under Chandwak police station. “The criminal, who has been admitted to the hospital, is a history sheeter and 12 cases were lodged against him,” he said.
