Agartala: In a bid to revamp the organisation of the ruling BJP, the party-state president Prof (Dr) Manik Saha today appointed Kishore Barman as general secretary of Tripura State BJPwith immediate effect.
With the appointment of Barman as a general secretary, one of the two existing general secretaries would be shifted to another post, as per the party constitution every BJP Pradesh (state) will have two general secretaries. At present Tinku Roy, also holding the post of Chairman Tripura Industrial Development Corporation (TIDC) and another woman leader of the party Papia Datta have been holding the posts, said a senior party functionary.
The state BJP organisation has been suffering from chronic distress across the state after the then president Biplab Kumar Deb was elected as Chief Minister of Tripura in 2018. Since then, BJP did not look back at the organisation and the main strength of the party at grass-root thousands of page observers have been de-linked from the top leadership, he pointed out.
After the formation of BJP-IPFT government, BJP had faced three more elections in last 41 months of it’s government but in no election party contested the opposition rather captured the power by using mussel and machinery. The Chief Minister fully concentrated on the governance
without much focus on the party that caused a serious damage to the party base and frustrated BJP rank and file, the leader stated.
Meantime, Prof (Dr) Saha, a greenhorn in politics was chosen as president by the Chief Minister as his successor who had been a known Congressman till joining BJP in the later part of 2016. As a result, dissidence in the party has grown up coupled with anti-incumbency against Biplab Kumar Deb, which helped opposition CPI(M) to reorganise and affected BJP at grassroots.
“Along with change of guards in both party and government was louder during the visit of BJP national general secretary (organisation) B L Santosh last month and seems based on his report BJP national president J P Nadda on July 8 last had held a meeting with Kishore Barman in party headquarter and announced his appoint in Tripura,” he said adding many more changes are waiting in the party and in the government shortly.
Barman hails from Sepahijala district of West Tripura and has been working as a secretary of West Bengal BJP since 2018. He was holding the responsibility of party organisation of the just-concluded assembly election in several districts of North Bengal where BJP has performed better.
