CM directs police to start investigation in case within 24 hrs of filing of FIR

Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday reviewed the functioning of the Assam police and directed various reformative measures to ensure prompt service to the citizens of the state.

In a review meeting which was attended by the officer in charge of all police stations from various districts of the state, Mr Sarma said that the police should start the investigation within 24 hours of filing an FIR.
He also directed senior officials to review and resolve all cases dismissed without a logical conclusion.

After assuming the office of the Chief Minister this was the second review meeting Sarma had with the police machinery in the state.
In order to fast track the disposal of cases in various police stations, Mr Sarma directed officers in charge of police stations to resolve all pending cases in a time-bound manner.

Sarma also asked to ensure timely disposal of PVR and passport verification reports, besides ensuring that no poor people are harassed by the police.
