Vasco da Gama: Chennaiyin FC will look to third straight win when it takes on the struggling SC East Bengal in its third Indian Super League (ISL) match on Friday at the Tilak Maidan Stadium here in Goa.

Chennaiyin FC head coach Bozidar Bandovic pointed out areas where his team needs to improve ahead of their match against SC East Bengal.

Chennaiyin FC has won two of their opening two matches this season and is now placed third in the points table. Meanwhile, SC East Bengal is in the 10th spot, with just one point to their name.
“We have a short gap between games, so we help the players recover, we analyse the game. Of course, we are looking at the statistics and analysing and preparing for the next opponents. We look at the opponents, all the moments, their training and keep the players focused and mentally ready for the upcoming game,” coach Bandovic said while addressing the media ahead of the match.

Bandovic said, “In December, we are going to have a game every three-four days, so we are not going to have any time for more work.
But, I believe that we need to improve and I hope that we will play better, but till now I am satisfied with the team, despite all the difficulties we have had from the start.”

He said, “SC East Bengal have conceded a lot of goals from set-pieces. We have followed their game as they have followed ours. So, we are going to prepare for that. We are trying to be better in the next game. The coach of SC East Bengal will try to do the same, to avoid goals conceded from set-pieces.”

On the other, SC East Bengal head coach Manuel Diaz urged his team to be more focussed while defending set-pieces ahead of his side’s clash against Chennaiyin FC.

The dead-ball situation is a department of concern for the Red and Gold Brigade where they have conceded most of their goals and especially in the 4-6 defeat to Odisha FC in the last match.

The 53-year-old also heaped praise on Bozidar Bandovic’s style of coaching at Chennaiyin FC and felt that his team would need to up their game to be able to compete with their opponents.

Diaz said, “In the last match, we scored the first goal and in the next ten minutes in three set-pieces we were on the losing end, conceding three goals. We need to improve our attention in the set-pieces.”

“It’s incredibly positive to score goals and that is an example of the attacking unit of our team being in a good place. In football, it’s the balance of attacking as well as defending. If the opponent
scored a goal, we need to work out our defence to not concede any further goals,’ he said.

“With respect to the last match, we need to improve our attention, concentration, focus, target, and set-pieces in particular. We need to focus on our set-pieces because it’s extremely important, in the first match we conceded a goal from the corner, so we have to be aware,” Diaz said.

“We need to improve on our mistakes, we need to believe in ourselves to win our first match of the competition,” he added.
