Agartala: The union tribal welfare minister Arun Munda has reviewed the ongoing projects and schemes undertaken for the development of an indigenous community of Tripura especially for Autonomous District Council (ADC) areas during his two days state visit, said tribal welfare minister of Tripura Mevar Kr Jamatia here today.
Munda had presided over a major review meeting on the progress in the implementation of various schemes including schemes like Van Dhan Vikash Karyakram. The matters of the forest right act and tribal sub-plan were also discussed in the meeting and the progress of Tripura had impressed him, he claimed.
While emphasizing sanctioning the pending projects of the state, Mevar Kr Jamatia requested Munda to ensure the introduction of the 125th constitutional (Amendment) Bill regarding the empowerment of Tripura ADC and formation of Tripura Territorial Council in the upcoming Parliament session to start from July 19, which has been pending for a long time.
He has also sought Munda’s intervention to materialise the pending proposal of the Tripura government’s for a special package of Rs 8882 Cr for tribal area development and to publish the recommendations of the high power modalities committee had been constituted by the Ministry of Home Affairs for the development of the socio-economic, cultural and linguistic issue of the indigenous population of the state three years ago as per the pre-poll agreement of BJP and IPFT.
“The committee held their meetings and interactions with the stakeholders and we are waiting for their recommendations by which the development activities of indigenous people would be started. There was a commitment for introducing Roman script for tribal dialect Kokborok, Special Recruitment Drive for filling up of the backlog and current vacancies in various government departments for ST and SCs, we apprised him of those too,” Mevar stated.
The central minister had also visited the Killa area of the Gomati district and interacted with members of forest product gatherers and self-help groups of the Killa cluster. The people gathered there exhibited things manufactured out of Van Dhan sources, he added.
