Gangtok: The Comptroller and Auditor General of India in its report has alleged irregularities of Rs 15.99 lakh in the expenses incurred by the Sikkim Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Other Backward Classes Development Corporation.

The findings were part of the CAG report for the year ended March 31, 2019, which has been submitted recently to the state Governor Ganga Prasad.

According to the report, Rs 9.11 Lakh out of Rs 15.99 lakh was spent on a foreign tour arranged to see the Southeast Asian models of infrastructure developed in Singapore, Kuala Lumpur and Bangkok.

The trip was arranged by a private agency with “doubtful credentials”, the report said.

Besides, Rs 6.88 Lakh was spent on a foreign sightseeing tour of the Chairperson of the Corporation.

The CAG has recommended the government verify the credentials of private agencies organising foreign tours for its personnel before approving.

“They may reassess critically the proposals of officials and non-officials,” said the CAG.
