Kolkata: A six-member delegation of ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) MPs on Friday met the Election Commission of India (ECI) to raise the Nandigram incident in which West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee suffered injuries.

The delegation included TMC MPs Dereck O’Brien, Saugata Roy, Satabdi Roy, Kakoli Ghosh. Dastidar, Pratima Mondal and Santunu Sen

In a letter to EC, the TMC delegation alleged an attempt was made on the life of our Chairperson Mamata Banerjee, on 10 March 2021 at Nandigram though the perpetrators failed in their vicious attempt.

The events/actions leading up to the attempt on her life, leave no doubt that the attack was premeditated and part of a deep-rooted conspiracy which would appear from the tell-tale events narrated below:

“On 8 March 2021, Dilip Ghosh, State President of BJP, made a post on his Facebook page with a caricature of Banerjee depicting that she would be hit at Nandigram (Annexure A). Around the same time, numerous complaints were filed by BJP with the Election Commission of India (“ECI”) seek in immediate removal of the erstwhile Director General & IGP of State of West Bengal (“DGP’,” the letter said.

“Almost immediately and unilaterally, on 9 March 2021 , in an abrupt decision, without consultation with the State Government, the ECi removed the erstwhile DGP (Annexure B). Your reply to our complaint in this matter fails to respond to the material points raised in our memorandum,” it said.

“Later that night (3:27A.M., 10 March 2021), Saumitra Khan, BJP MP, replied to a tweet by Babul Supriyo, BJP MP, stating “kal theke bujhle parbe. Bikel panchta ‘r por.” (You will come to know tomorrow after 5 P.M.). It clearly indicates that something grave was planned and was in the offing beyond 5P.M. at Nandigram on 10 March 2021. (Annexure C),” the letter said.

“On 10 March, BJP complained against the police personnel responsible for CM’s security. On the same day, beyond 5P.M., at around 6:30 P.M., SP and local police were suspiciously absent when an attempt was made on the life of Ms. Banerjee, in which she was grievously hurt. To cover up the attack, eye-witnesses were planted. Illustratively, eye-witnesses Chittaranjan Das and Debabrata Das, who testified that Banerjee’s car was hit against an iron pillar are associates of Suvendu Adhikari, BJP candidate from Nandigram. With one he is seen publicly and with the latter, he is seen enjoying a meal at the latter’s house (Annexure D),” it said.

“The enclosed photos (Annexure E) of our Chairperson’s car show not even a scratch — clearly demolishing the lie that the vehicle hit against an iron pillar on the road. In this context, we would also like to mention the unfortunate comment made by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, at the ‘Brigade Cholo Rally’ on 7 March 2021, in which he said “lekinj ab scooty ne Nandigram mein girna taye kiya hai toh hum kya kare. ” (If the scooter has decided to fall In Nandigram, what can we do?),” it said.

“From the above, there is a clear nexus between post by Dilip Ghosh on Facebook, multiple complaints by BJP seeking removal of DGP, the unilateral decision of the ECI to remove the erstwhile DGP, the plan revealed by Saumitra Khan on Twitter, BJP’s request to suspend/remove security personnel of Banerjee, the resultant attempt on the life of Banerjee and the cover up of the same by Adhikari’ the letter said.

“At the moment, our Chairperson and Hon’ble Chief Minister continues to be hospitalised due to the above conspiracy. However, on account of the love, affection and blessing of the people of Bangla, though gravely injured, our Hon’ble Chief Minister is stable and in good spirits. Evidently, the attack is a deep-rooted conspiracy, and we call for an immediate, thorough and unbiased investigation into the same,” it added.
