Kolkata: The BJP on Thursday named the party’s four candidates for October 30 bypoll in as many seats, barely a day ahead of the last date of submitting papers for nomination.

While Ashoka Mondal would file his nomination for Dinhata Assembly seat in North Bengal’s Coochbehar district, Niranjan Biswas would contest from Santipur in Nadia, Joy Saha from Khardaha in North 24 Parganas and Palash Rana from Gosaba in South 24 Parganas.

Earlier, the CPI(M)-led Left Front has named their party candidates for the byelections.

While LF constituent Forward Bloc nominee Abdur Rauf would fight from Dinhata in Coochbehar, RSP candidate Anil Chandra Mandal will contest from Gosaba in South 24 Parganas and CPI(M)’s Soumen Mahato and Debojyodi Das would vie from Santipur (Nadia) and Khardaha in North 24 Parganas respectively.

The filing of nominations, which started on October 01, will end on October 8.

October 13 is the last date of withdrawal of nomination papers.
Counting will take place on November 02.

State ruling Trinamool Congress named its party candidates on October 03.

While Udayan Guha will contest from Dinhata, Brajakishore Goswami from Sanitpur, Sobhandeb Chattopadhyay from Khardhaha and Subrata Mandol from Gosaba.

Dinahta and Santipur seats fell vacant after BJPs MPs Nishit Pramanik and Jagannath Sarkar resigned from these seats.

Khardaha seat fell vacant after TMC candidate Kajal Sinha died of Covid before May 02, while Govinda Naskar of Gosaba also died of Covid-19 after taking the oath of the office.

In earlier byelections to Bhawanipur, Jangipur and Samshergunj Assembly seats, Trinamool Congress romped home in all the three.
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee won from prestigious Bhawanipur by a whopping margin of more than 58,000 votes.
