Imphal: A biopic on Olympics Silver medalist Saikhom Mirabai Chanu has been announced and producer RK Nalini Devi has roped in OC Meira to direct the upcoming film slated to hit theatres in late 2022.
Manipur’s famous screenplay and dialogue writer Manaobi Meitei Moirangthem (Manaobi MM) will write the movie for at least six months now and the screenplay has been zeroed in. The actors are yet to be finalised.
An agreement was signed on Saturday between Seuti Films Production and star weightlifter and her family at their Nongpok Kakching village residence in Manipur’s Imphal East district for making the film.
The proposed film will showcase Mirabai’s childhood and her life in the village; her introduction and training in weightlifting; participation at national and international events and lastly her win at the Tokyo Olympics. It will also highlight her experiences in the city and other incidents, in a realistic manner.
The film will also be subtitled in English and other regional languages without losing the importance of reality-based scripting.
Expressing his excitement about the film, Manaobi MM, who has written more than 160 dramas and dialogues to his credit so far, said he had already planned to write a movie based on Mirabai and fortunately RK Nalini of the famed Manipuri feature film ‘Aronba Wari’ has agreed to produce the film. He further informed that he will take at least six months to research the script and probably the film shooting will begin in March or April next year.
Even though he hasn’t yet disclosed the budget of the project, he contended two-third of the film shooting will be done in Manipur only and the rest will go outside wherever it takes.
