Assam Rifles pays tribute to seven martyrs in Tengnoupal

Tengnoupal: Assam Rifles, under the aegis of Headquarters Inspector General Assam Rifles (South), organised a solemn Wreath Laying Ceremony at Tengnoupal District on 06 September 2026 to pay homage to seven bravehearts who made the supreme sacrifice during Operation Hifazat in Manipur on 06 September 1992.The ceremony commemorated the historical event when an administrative convoy column of 41 personnel moving under the command of Major Dhillon from Kangpokpi towards T. Waichung along the IT Road came under attack in dense forests near 14 Mile. Insurgents of NSCN (IM) triggered an IED blast accompanied by heavy, indiscriminate firing. Displaying exceptional courage and fighting spirit, Lance Naik Patigan Dhobi along with his comrades retaliated effectively. In the fierce firefight, Lance Naik Patigan Dhobi, Lance Naik Keshar Bahadur Khatri, Rifleman Amarjit Sharma, Rifleman Khem Singh, Rifleman Ganesh Gurung, Rifleman Rajesh Kumar Tripathi, and Rifleman Lal Dev Yadav fought valiantly and made the supreme sacrifice.

The solemn tribute highlighted the gallant actions and supreme sacrifices of these martyrs as an enduring source of inspiration for personnel operating in challenging security environments. By consistently supporting and participating in national events such as martyrs’ commemorations, Independence Day, and Kargil Diwas, the local population of Tengnoupal District continues to nurture a deep spirit of patriotism, nationalism, and collective solidarity across Manipur.
