Assam: Sahitya Academy Award winner Sananta Tanty passes away

Guwahati: Sahitya Academy Award winner renowned Assamese poet Sananta Tanty passed away in New Delhi in the wee hours of Thursday.
Sixty nine-year old Tanty breathed his last at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi.

Tanty’s demise is considered to be a big loss for the Assamese literary fraternity. Assam Chief Minister Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has expressed his condolences on the passing away of the poet.

Tanty was born in 1952 at Kalibari Tea Estate in Karimganj district of Assam. Tanty received the 2018 Sahitya Akademi Award for “Kailoir Dinto Amar Hobo” (Tomorrow Will be Ours), a collection of his poems.
