Churachandpur: In a magnificent manifestation of community spirit, health fitness drive and national pride, Assam Rifles successfully orchestrated a series of vibrant fitness and civic outreach activities across multiple districts of Manipur on 24 May 2026. Aligning seamlessly with the national vision of the Fit India Movement—a flagship countrywide campaign launched to encourage citizens to incorporate physical activity and sports into their daily lives—these multi-faceted events served as a powerful catalyst for promoting holistic wellness, environmental consciousness and robust civil-military harmony across the region. Crucially, beyond bridging cultural divides, these initiatives drove a profound societal impact by actively exhorting the local population to reject sedentary routines and embrace a disciplined, physically active and health-oriented lifestyle for long-term mental and physical resilience.

Marking a monumental milestone, Assam Rifles organised the historic 75th edition of “Sundays on Cycle” with an enthusiastic cycle rally traversing from Kakching District to the revered Khongjom War Memorial in Thoubal District. The event drew approximately 70 passionate cyclists, pooling together 43 personnel from Assam Rifles and Border Security Force alongside local youth and civilians. Pedalling through scenic stretches, participants vibrant with patriotic fervour paid a solemn homage to the legendary Manipuri warriors of the 1891 Anglo-Manipur War, successfully reinforcing community solidarity and regional legacy. Simultaneously, Keithelmanbi Garrison in Imphal West District generated immense ecological momentum by hosting a spirited “Run for Fun and Sunday on Cycle” event. This green initiative witnessed an overwhelming turnout of 206 troops and officials alongside 7 ladies, 30 children and 35 families, culminating in an interactive lakeside gathering that profoundly strengthened institutional camaraderie and environmental responsibility.

850 Extending this wellness wave to the border and hill areas, a comprehensive Fit India drive was executed at the IB Helipad in Moreh within Tengnoupal District, mobilizing 77 troops and officials along with 17 local civilians in rigorous endurance drills. Meanwhile, Mantripukhri Garrison in Imphal East District capitalised on wholesome family wellness by engaging 75 families, including a lady medical officer, in an enriching early morning yoga session, followed closely by an energetic cycling tour featuring 95 troops and officials alongside 25 enthusiastic children. Mirroring this spectacular public outreach, extensive health drives vibrated through Ukhrul and Kamjong Districts. Immersive yoga, breathing and meditation routines spanned across Somsai, various Company Operating Bases and the border village of Nampisha, drawing expansive participation from troops, rural men, women and children. The synchronized action culminated beautifully with a challenging five-kilometre “Run for Fun” at Shangshak in Ukhrul District, where 20 troops and officials joined hands with 27 local villagers. Through these deeply humanised and impactful socio-civic interactions, Assam Rifles has effectively preserved historical legacies while cementing an unbreakable bond of trust, mutual respect and shared physical well-being with the diverse populations of Manipur.
