Imphal: In recognition of their outstanding contribution to counter insurgency operations and border management in Manipur, 17 Assam Rifles and 40 Assam Rifles were conferred the prestigious Governor of Manipur Citation during an Investiture Ceremony held at Imphal. The award was received by the Commanding Officers and Subedar Majors on behalf of their battalions, marking a proud moment for all ranks.
Operating in South Eastern Manipur, 17 Assam Rifles has consistently demonstrated resilience and professionalism in challenging conditions. The battalion has conducted successful operations leading to the apprehension of insurgent cadres and recovery of arms, ammunition and war-like stores, significantly weakening insurgent networks. The unit has also played a vital role in advancing the Indo–Myanmar border fencing project, ensuring progress through firm security measures and constructive engagement with local communities despite resistance.
Similarly, 40 Assam Rifles has displayed operational excellence and dedication in its area of responsibility. Through sustained missions, the battalion has contributed to improving the security environment and strengthening border management infrastructure, reinforcing stability in the region.
The Governor’s Citation stands as a testament to the courage, commitment and selfless service of both battalions, highlighting their vital role in safeguarding national security and fostering peace in the North East.
