Guwahati: Assam police arrested 10 persons for their alleged involvement in the killing of an AASU leader at Assam’s Jorhat district on Monday.
Special Director General of Police (Law & Order), Assam GP Singh on his Twitter handle said the investigation shall be monitored at the highest level including the CID, Assam Police, Assam government and the CMO.
“Reference Jorhat incident – Till now ten persons have been arrested by @Jorhat_Police. The investigation shall be monitored at the highest level including @AssamCid @assampolice @mygovassam @CMOfficeAssam,” Singh tweeted.
The incident of mob lynching at Jorhat reportedly took place after a man was injured in a road accident. The lynched AASU leader is a resident of Dergaon in Golaghat district while journalist Baruah
works for a private TV news channel.
Earlier, Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma assured strict action against the culprits involved in the lynching of the All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) leader. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said, “Those involved in the incident will be booked and justice will be served.”
