Guwahati: Officials and ministers from Assam and Arunachal Pradesh recently attended a meeting to discuss the ongoing border dispute between the two states.
The meeting aimed to find a permanent solution to the longstanding issue. The Assam Education Minister Ranoj Pegu tweeted about attending the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh Border Regional Committee Meeting held at the Assam Administrative Staff College.
The meeting was jointly presided over by Jayanta Malla Baruah, a Cabinet colleague of Pegu, and Arunachal Pradesh minister Tumke Bagra. MLAs of the districts involved in the discussions and senior officers also attended.
Baruah tweeted that the meeting lasted for five hours and the officials deliberated on finding a solution to the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border issue.
He added that under the leadership of HHM Shri Amit Shah, they were hopeful of finding a proper solution soon on amicable terms.
The two states have been engaging in discussions to resolve the border disputes, and last year Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and his Arunachal Pradesh counterpart Pema Khandu signed the Namsai Declaration pledging to find a solution soon.
As part of their efforts, the two states have agreed to limit the number of disputed villages to 86 from the previous 123.
