Itanagar: An elderly lady has sustained severe burn injuries after a massive fire broke out at her dwelling in a remote village in Arunachal Pradesh.
The incident happened at Simong village in Upper Siang district on Sunday, official sources said here.
The seriously injured woman was immediately rushed to District Hospital at Yingkiong, where she is currently undergoing treatment.
65-year-old Apili Siboh, mother of Obang Siboh, was alone at the OBT house at the time of the incident. She suffered severe burns on her face, hands and shoulder. The dwelling was completely destroyed in the inferno.
On getting the information, the Fire and Emergency Services Department personnel dashed to the spot and douse the blaze with the help of locals.
Though the exact cause of the fire was yet to be ascertained, eyewitnesses suspect it originated from the unattended local made fireplace.
The blaze was so devastating that nothing could be saved. Household properties, including local ornaments (beads) worth lakhs of rupees were lost in the fire mishap.
Meanwhile, Upper Siang Deputy Commissioner Hage Lailang along with the district officers including DDMO Beru Dulom paid a visit to the injured lady at the hospital to enquire about her health condition.
Earlier, after receiving the incident report, the DDMO and CO Kenli Riba immediately rushed to the spot to assess the situation. He handed over Rs 3800 to the affected family as immediate relief as per the Govt’s relief norms, the sources added.
