Arunachal CM launches Nugong Bridge in Siang dist

Mention may be made that the foundation stone of the 224-metre-long bridge project was laid by former Chief Minister late Dorjee Khandu about 14 years ago.

Itanagar:Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu on Tuesday inaugurated the Nugong Bridge – a motorable steel suspension bridge over river Siang between Pangin and Komsing village in Siang district, thus fulfilling the long pending aspiration of the people of the region.

Mention may be made that the foundation stone of the 224-metre-long bridge project was laid by former Chief Minister late Dorjee Khandu about 14 years ago.

“Nugong Bridge is very special to me, as its foundation was laid by my late father, former CM Shri Dorjee Khandu Ji. Felt privileged & honoured to inaugurate the motorable steel suspension Bridge, having 224-metre length, over Siang river between BRTF road & Komsing, today,” CM Pema Khandu said in a social media post.

Present on the momentous occasion were Health & Family Welfare Minister Alo Libang, Arunachal East MP Tapir Gao and MLAs Lombo Tayeng, Ninong Ering, Phurpa Tsering, Kaling Moyong, Kanggong Taku, Talem Taboh and Ojing Tasing, among others.

Meanwhile, the people of ‘Nugong Banggo’ which comprises eight villages in Siang district have expressed gratitude to the Chief Minister for inaugurating the much-awaited bridge over river Siang today.

The apex organisation of the area, Nugong Banggo Kebang (NBK), in a press statement said that they are highly grateful and shall not forget the contribution and initiative of late Dorjee Khandu, former Chief Minister for his love to the Nugong people who had laid the foundation stone in 2008 to connect the eight villages to the rest of the world.

“Today his dream has been fulfilled. The Nugong Banggo people shall not forget the present government for giving its best effort to complete the Nugong Bridge,” NBK president TK Kopak, who presented a memento to the Chief Minister during the bridge inauguration, said.
