New Delhi: Stepping up its outreach to neighbours through air waves, and to counter any propaganda from rival nations, the External Services Division of All India Radio on Sunday announced doubling of its transmission time in six neighbourhood languages from January 3, 2022.
The languages are: Dari, Pashto, Baluchi, Mandarin Chinese, Nepali and Tibetan.
The transmissions would now be available daily morning and evening, said a Prasar Bharati statement.
The broadcast timings in each of these six languages has been doubled from the existing 1 to 1.5 hours to 3 hours.
While Dari and Pashto are spoken in Afghanistan, where the Taliban now rule, Baluchi is spoken in Balochistan province of Pakistan.
Extending the timing of the transmission of the Mandarin Chinese and Tibetan language programmes comes amid the chill in ties with China over the border face-off in eastern Ladakh, and also in the wake of Beijing attempting to give “names” to places in Arunachal Pradesh, which it claims as south Tibet.
India has stated firmly that Arunachal Pradesh is an integral part of its territory and asked Beijing to desist from such actions.
The broadcast services in these six languages henceforth will be available every day for one and a half hours each in the morning and evening.
These services would be available on:
