Pherzawl: The Intensified Pulse Polio Immunisation (IPPI) campaign was officially launched today at the Community Health Centre (CHC), Parbung, marking a renewed effort to protect children under five from poliomyelitis. The programme was inaugurated by Dr. Thanglienzuol, Medical Officer in-charge, along with Parbung Village Authority Chairman Zothansang, who administered oral polio drops to young children.
Organised by the District Health Society, Pherzawl, in collaboration with the Department of Health & FW and the National Health Mission, Manipur, the campaign saw participation from frontline health workers, including ANMs, ASHA and Anganwadi workers, along with parents and guardians.
Speaking on the occassion, Zothansang praised the dedication of healthcare workers and community stakeholders in promoting community health. Dr. Thanglienzuol urged parents to ensure that every child below five years receive the life-saving polio vaccine, stressing that polio remains a serious disease capable of causing lifelong disability. He also encouraged families to complete all routine immunisations on schedule.
District health officials explained that the campaign will span three days, beginning with Booth Day and vaccination at designated transit points, where immunised children will have their fingers marked. This will be followed by intensive house-to-house visits on June 29 and a mop-up drive on June 30 to ensure that no child is left out.
Officials informed that 59 vaccination booths have been established across Pherzawl district, with a target of immunising 3,414 children during the campaign.
