Kangpokpi: In a major boost to regional public health, the District Health Society Kangpokpi has launched the Intensified Pulse Polio Immunization (IPPI) alongside the Stop Diarrhoea Campaign 2026. Rolled out at the District Immunization Office, this dual campaign underscores the district’s commitment to safeguarding the health and well-being of young children.

Speaking on the occasion, Chief Guest Lamminlal Simte, MCS, ADM, commended the medical fraternity and frontline workers for driving these vital health campaigns. He noted that India’s polio-free status is the result of such consistent efforts and called for strong community cooperation to achieve maximum campaign coverage. Assuring full administrative support, Simte expressed confidence that dedicated public-government collaboration would make both the IPPI and the Stop Diarrhoea Campaign a complete success

Elaborating on the campaign details Dr. Mangboi Haokip, District Immunization Officer (DIO), urged parents to bring all children under five years of age (0 to 59 months) to the Polio Booths for the Intensified Pulse Polio Immunization (IPPI) campaign, emphasizing that every eligible child must receive the vaccine drops regardless of their prior vaccination history. Highlighting the region’s proximity to international borders and neighboring nations where the wild polio virus remains a threat, Dr. Haokip underscored the critical need for intensified vigilance and comprehensive coverage to prevent any resurgence of the disease.

Joining the address Dr. Lhingdei Thangeo, District Nodal Officer (DNO) for Child Health, emphasized that diarrhea remains a leading but preventable cause of death among children under five. She stated that the Stop Diarrhea Campaign, running until July 31st, aims for zero child mortality by strictly utilizing Oral Rehydration Salts (ORS) and Zinc tablets. Dr. Thangeo outlined that health centers across Kangpokpi have received 19,614 ORS packets for distribution, with frontline ASHA workers slated to conduct door-to-door hygiene awareness. She added that all schools and Anganwadi centers will establish dedicated ORS-Zinc corners and demonstrate proper handwashing techniques to ensure a safe environment for every child.

Marking the formal launch, the Chief Guest administered polio vaccine drops to young children and handed out ORS packets and Zinc tablets to parents, a symbolic gesture that officially kicked off the district-wide health drive. For this campaign, Kangpokpi district has set a target to inoculate 15,556 young beneficiaries. To ensure seamless coverage across the region, a total of 154 vaccination booths will be established under the oversight of 31 supervisors and executed by 616 dedicated vaccinators on the ground.
