Imphal: In a comprehensive effort to enhance regional disaster preparedness, a Joint Flood Relief Capsule Training was conducted at the Khongjom War Memorial Lake in Kakching District on 02 May 2026. Spearheaded by the Assam Rifles, the exercise was held in close collaboration with the 12th Battalion National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and the 1st Manipur Air Squadron NCC. The initiative brought together a total of 126 personnel and cadets, fostering a unified front to tackle flood-related emergencies in the state’s most vulnerable and remote regions. This is a significantly important step towards preparedness with several warning already issued by the Govt regarding the likely heavy rainfall in various places of Manipur.
The training curriculum prioritised hands-on, practical modules, ranging from boat rescue operations to navigation in challenging floodwaters. Participants engaged in realistic simulations involving the recovery of stranded civilians and the execution of life-saving drills, including the use of improvised flotation devices, CPR and casualty evacuation procedures. Furthermore, the sessions provided an essential introduction to the professional handling of specialised equipment such as life jackets, rescue ropes and stretchers.
Beyond the acquisition of technical skills, the event served as a vital platform for sharing operational expertise and best practices among the forces. By conducting joint drills, the personnel demonstrated high levels of coordination, ensuring a seamless transition from training to real-world disaster response. This proactive engagement significantly enhances the readiness of first responders, providing the local communities of Manipur with a reinforced safety net and a more resilient response mechanism against the unpredictable challenges of natural calamities.
