Imphal: In a swift humanitarian response that averted a potential tragedy, Assam Rifles provided life-saving medical assistance to a local resident of Churachandpur District on 01 May 2026. Mr Lunkhogin, a 52-year-old resident of Gamnom village, was foraging for seasonal mushrooms in the nearby jungle when he sustained a venomous snake bite. As his condition deteriorated rapidly, concerned relatives and local ex-servicemen sought immediate help from the Assam Rifles Unit Hospital at Khuga, Churachandpur.
Recognising the urgency of the situation, a dedicated team of 08 personnel, including medical staff and support troops, immediately commenced a clinical assessment and laboratory investigations. To counter the advancing toxins, the medical team administered five vials of Anti-Snake Venom (ASV) and maintained a vigilant round-the-clock watch over the patient for several hours. Once his vitals were stabilised, he was safely transitioned to the District Hospital, Churachandpur, for continued recovery and management. The villagers expressed their heartfelt gratitude for the timely intervention and medical assistance extended by Assam Rifles.
This successful intervention highlights the precarious nature of life in remote settlements like Gamnom, where limited access to specialised healthcare and the absence of life-saving antivenoms often make snake bites fatal. Beyond their primary security mandate, the presence of the Assam Rifles serves as a vital medical lifeline for the frontier communities of Manipur.
