Imphal: The Forest Department of Manipur, in collaboration with Rajya Sabha MP Maharaja Leishemba Sanajaoba, organized a large-scale tree plantation drive under the theme “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” (One Tree in Mother’s Name) at Nongdam Shanglen, Wakha, on Sunday.
The event, spearheaded by Ganesh, DFO/Central, aimed to raise awareness about the harmful effects of deforestation, including frequent landslides and global warming, and stressed the importance of conservation efforts.
Rajya Sabha MP Leishemba Sanajaoba inaugurated the initiative, urging collective responsibility in safeguarding the environment. “We must treat these saplings as we would our mothers, nurturing them to full growth,” he emphasized.
The drive is part of a national effort led by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, under the leadership of Bhupender Yadav, to plant 80 crore saplings by September 2024 and 140 crore by March 2025.
The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from local communities, including devotees, students, teachers, local clubs, and residents. As Manipur unites with the rest of the nation in this vital cause, the collective commitment to environmental preservation was reaffirmed. According to a press note from the DFO/Central Forest Division, each sapling planted is a step toward a greener, healthier, and more sustainable future for coming generations.
