Manipur Forest Dept, BSF carry out plantation drive

Imphal: The Forest Department and the Border Security Force (BSF) successfully conducted a plantation drive at the BSF Headquarters in Mantripukhri on Saturday.

The event was led by Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Ganesh Nagarajan from the Forest Department, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) J. K. Birdi from the BSF, Commandant Dalbir Singh Ahlawat, and their respective teams.

In his address, DIG J. K. Birdi emphasized the significance of forest conservation, highlighting the role of tree plantations in enhancing the environment and contributing to regional security. He pointed out that trees serve as natural barriers, prevent soil erosion, and provide essential habitats for wildlife.

DFO Ganesh Nagarajan echoed these sentiments, stating that forest conservation and restoration are vital for combating climate change. He underscored the role of trees in carbon sequestration and emphasized the need for ongoing cooperation between the Forest Department and the BSF to protect and nurture natural resources.

A total of 202 individuals participated in the plantation drive, including officers and staff from both organizations. This initiative demonstrates the commitment of the Forest Department and the BSF to environmental conservation and sustainable development, a press note from the DFO/Central Forest Division, Government of Manipur stated.
