Assam Rifles seizes gold in Manipur border

Imphal: Tengnoupal Battalion of Assam Rifles seized ten gold biscuits at Permanent Vehicle Check Post, Khudengthabi, Tengnoupal district on Thursday.

Assam Rifles official on Friday said the gold was seized from a person who came in a two wheeler at the permanent vehicle check post, Khudengthabi near the Manipur Myanmar border.

The gold biscuits were concealed in the commuter’s shoes. The individual was travelling from Moreh to Imphal. The recovered gold biscuits weighed about 1660 gm and were assessed to be worth Rs 1.01 Crore .

The seized Gold Biscuits, along with the apprehended individual, were handed over to Customs Department, Moreh for further investigation.

Timber seized

Somsai Battalion of Assam Rifles foiled timber smuggling at Awangkasom village, Ukhrul District on Thursday. 

The officials on Friday said Assam Rifles troops intercepted five trucks loaded with illegal timber evaluated to be worth Rs 1.6 crore .

The seized timber along with apprehended smugglers and vehicles were handed over to Forest Beat Officer, Awangkasom for further legal action.
