Lucknow: A retired Indian Police Service (IPS) officer was suffocated to death and his wife and son were seriously injured when a house caught fire in Indira Nagar colony, police sources said here on Sunday.
Police sources said that the incident occurred late on Saturday night when the fire broke out on the first floor of retired Inspector General of Police (IG) Dinesh Chandra Pandey in C block of Indira Nagar colony. “The fire engulfed the entire floor and Pandey along with his wife Aruna and son Shashank were trapped inside,” they said.
Police sources said that the firefighters and police immediately reached the spot and managed to take Pandey and his family out of the house after an hour-long effort. “They were taken to Ram Manohar Lohia hospital where Pandey was declared dead by the doctors. Condition of his wife and son is stated to be serious,” they said.
