Itanagar: Two policemen belonging to the India Reserve Battalion (IRBn) have been arrested in Itanagar while in possession of over 142 grams of suspected heroin, a senior police officer said on Monday.
City SP Jimmy Chiram said, after having received inputs about two peddlers being active in Itanagar, a police team led by Dy SP Dekio Gumja and Itanagar PS OC Inspector Khiksi Yangfo intercepted the duo at Chandranagar here during drug delivery, leading to their arrest and recovery of the contraband.
The SP said the arrestees, identified as Prem Dorjee and Yom Tape, belong to 4th and 5th India Reserve Battalions respectively and are presently posted in Security Cell, Itanagar. On being frisked, they (Dorjee and Tape) were found in possession of suspected heroin, weighing 88.85 and 53.33 grams respectively, totaling 142.18 grams.
The police team was supported by Extra Assistant Commissioner (Itanagar) Aying Perme and Special Magistrate (J) NDPS Oli Koyu, who oversaw the entire process of search and seizure of the contraband.
A case (No. 255/22) U/S 21(b)/27A/29 NDPS Act has been registered in Itanagar PS and taken up for investigation, Chiram said.
The SP, while appreciating the team for their painstaking efforts that led to the arrest of alleged drug peddlers, reaffirmed that anyone involved in the illicit drug trade will not be spared. “Continued public support has helped Capital police to disrupt the supply chain of drugs in the capital area,” he said.
