Press Council team calls on Manipur’s IPR Minister Biswajit

It may be mentioned that a PCI team is in the State to evolve guidelines for the media and security forces on reporting in conflict situations and to organize activities particularly in the North-eastern States, Naxal affected areas, and Jammu & Kashmir.

Imphal: The visiting team of the Press Council of India consisting of its Convener Jai Shanker, members Kamal Narang and Pradeep Kumar Jain has called on Manipur’s Information & Public Relations Minister Thongam Biswajit Singh Friday at the latter’s official residence here. 

During the meeting, the PCI team put forward certain suggestions to strengthen the media fraternity in the State. 

Biswajit on his part said that the media is the fourth pillar of democracy and has an important role to play in safeguarding and building the nation towards peace and development. It is of utmost importance that news reports are balanced and not one-sided, he added. 

The PCI team had on March 24 met the Director General of Police of Manipur, L.M. Khaute at Police Headquarters and also interacted with members of the All Manipur Working Journalists’ Union, Editors’ Guild Manipur and Manipur Hill Journalists’ Union at the Directorate Information and Public Relations Director’s office chamber.
