Schools in Meghalaya to be closed due to heavy rain

The Meghalaya Government on Thursday declared closure of all schools in the State from June 17 to 20 in view of the inclement weather and for the safety of school children.

Shillong:  The Meghalaya Government on Thursday declared closure of all schools in the State from June 17 to 20 in view of the inclement weather and for the safety of school children.

“In view of the inclement weather and warning by IMD (Indian Meteorological Department) MET Centre Shillong on heavy to very heavy rain with isolated extremely heavy rainfall, which is very likely to continue over Meghalaya during next 5 days, all schools shall remain closed from June 17 to 20,” a notification from the Education Commissioner and Secretary, B.D.R Tiwari stated.

Deputy Commissioners have been advised to assess and examine on a case-to-case basis on the safety of reopening of schools in their respective districts.

“This is issued in the interest of the safety of school children and shall come into force with immediate effect till further orders,” the notification read.
