New Delhi: The Home Ministry on Thursday constituted a committee to enquire into the security breach during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Punjab visit.

The committee will submit its report at the earliest, a Home Ministry Spokesperson said.

“Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has constituted a committee to enquire into the serious lapses in the security arrangements during Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s visit to Ferozepur, Punjab on 05.01.2022, which led to the exposure of the VVIP to grave security risk,” a tweet from the official account of Home Ministry Spokesperson said.

The three-member committee will be led by Sudhir Kumar Saxena, Secretary (Security), Cabinet Secretariat. The other members of the committee include Balbir Singh, Joint Director, IB and S Suresh, IG, SPG.

“The committee is advised to submit the report at the earliest,” the spokesperson said.

The Prime Minister could not attend a rally in Ferozepur in Punjab on Wednesday after his cavalcade got stuck on a flyover for around 20 minutes due to a roadblock by protesters.

The Home Ministry called it a major security lapse. It said the incident took place around 30 km from the National Martyrs Memorial in Hussainiwala.

The Punjab government has set up a committee to probe the security lapses, which will give its report in three days.
