Imphal: As a part of the year-long golden jubilee celebration of the Manipuri Cinema (1972-2022), the pioneers of Manipur film personalities were honoured Friday at the Palace Auditorium, Manipur State Film Development Society.
Governor of Manipur La Ganesan and Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) Maharaja Leishemba Sanajaoba felicitated altogether the 31 personalities including actor, producer, director, music director, playback singer, screenwriter, cinematographer, sound recordist, lyricist, cine exhibitor, projectionist, make-up artist, mechanic, gaffer/light, screenwriter, film critic, editor, producer.
Stating that cinema has taken a big role in shaping the society and giving a face to the State, the Manipur Governor lauded the invaluable contributions made by the pioneers of Manipuri Cinema who have made tireless efforts to uplift Manipuri Films to greater heights during the last five decades.
Governor Ganesan also appreciated the Manipur Film Development Society for invaluable felicitation of pioneers of the Manipuri cinema.
Ganesan said that the making of cinema today is based on transmitting a good amount of message for society as it highlights the ills and ingrained socio-economic and cultural problems concentrated in our society. Cinema helps society in general and individuals in particular in bringing happiness, peace and tranquility, prosperity and harmony and creating cordial ambience to live amicably.
Celebration of the Golden Jubilee of an Institution or organization is a proud moment for the Institution as well as for the people of the State. The contributions made by the pioneers of Manipuri Cinema to promote the State’s culture and art are, indeed, commendable and praiseworthy by one and all, he added.
Before starting the programme, “Glimpse of Manipuri Cinema”, a highlight of the 50 years journey of Manipuri Cinema was also screened.
Rajya Sabha Member Maharaja Leishemba Sanajaoba graced the occasion as president. The programme was attended by a number of film personalities and film lovers of the State.
It may be mentioned that the yearlong golden jubilee celebration of the Manipuri Cinema (1972-2022) was started from April, 2021 and it will continue till April, 2022.
