Imphal: Reconnecting citizens with the patriotic essence of India’s freedom movement, Assam Rifles spearheaded a series of comprehensive community awareness programmes across multiple districts of Manipur on 07 and 08 August 2026. The widespread initiatives aligned seamlessly with the Ministry of Culture’s nationwide year-long commemoration marking 150 years of Vande Mataram—honouring the 1875 patriotic composition by Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay published in his novel Anandamath—alongside the ongoing Har Ghar Tiranga campaign aimed at instilling national pride and responsible citizenship.
On 07 August 2026, extensive Har Ghar Tiranga awareness drives were executed simultaneously across key locations. Company Operating Base (COB) L Koireng engaged 150 students and 50 local residents at Sangaithel Vocational School in Imphal West District. COB Nambol mobilised 301 students at Bethel English School, while COB Irengbam reached out to 70 villagers at Wainam Village, both in Bishnupur District. In Imphal West District, COB Komlakhong interacted with 120 residents. Simultaneously, COB Waroiching engaged 80 villagers at Waroiching Village in Kangpokpi District. In addition, 150 students at Assam Rifles Public School (ARPS), Keithelmanbi, participated in a special commemorative session on Vande Mataram.
The commemorative fervor extended across border districts through dedicated educational and youth engagements. At Sajik Tampak in Chandel District, the Sajik Tampak Battalion conducted an interactive session where 80 students and 5 teachers of Brighter Foundation School received educational insights and gift hampers containing stationery and chocolates. At Bongjang in Tengnoupal District, an awareness programme educated 150 youth on the historical role of Vande Mataram as a unifying battle cry. Meanwhile, ARPS Shangshak in Ukhrul District brought together 45 students and 10 teachers for a ceremonial recitation and interactive discussion on national service.
Building on this momentum, a 17-member Assam Rifles contingent conducted a painting competition and Tiranga Rally at Zilla Parishad Creative English School in Lilong, Thoubal District, on 08 August 2026. The event witnessed vibrant artistic depictions of national symbols by 60 students, guided by 4 teachers, concluding with a collective pledge to uphold the ideals of national unity and integrity.
