Puducherry: Leader of the Opposition and DMK Puducherry Unit Convener R Siva has called upon all political parties to unite and fight for the rights of the Union Territory.
Addressing an all-party meeting, in connection with the launch of an agitation against the Pondicherry University Vice-Chancellor Prof Gurmeet Singh for suspending 11 students, including leaders of the University Students Federation, Mr Siva said the university had so far denied 25 per cent reservation for the local students and the Vice-Chancellor on his own had suspended 11 students who fought against the hike in the tuition fees.
He said now the time has come to fight for the rights of the UT, a DMK release here on Friday said.
Representatives of the Congress, MDMK, VCK, CPI(M), CPI(ML), Dravidar Kazhagam, and Puducherry Students federation participated in the meeting held here on Thursday evening.
