Imphal: The Myanmar government has deported five Manipuri insurgents belonging to the proscribed outfit People’s Liberation Army (PLA) to India, the news agency reported Thursday.
Five cadres of the PLA outfit who were reportedly arrested by the Myanmar Army and kept imprisoned at Monia in Mandalay, Myanmar were transported back into the country. They were brought back in an Indian Air Force plane which landed at Bir Tikendrajit International Airport, Imphal around 11 am on Wednesday.
The PLA militants were arrested by Myanmar Police on Chindwin River Bridge at Monywa in northwestern Myanmar in August last year while they were going for medical treatment.
As per their passports, they have been identified as one Naredra Nongmaijing (Nora) of Kumbi; Loitongbam Rajkumar (Abi) of Lakhinagar Mayai Leikai, Lakhipur Cachar; Thokchom Kalasana (Koireng) of Langmeidong Mayai Leikai; Salam Somendra (Devani) of Tokpa Ching Mahadeva Mamang Leikai and Taoren Rohen (Angam) of Changangei Uchekon.
Reports said that Devani is a self-styled ‘captain’ in the militant outfit. Narendra has married a Myanmarese woman in Sagaing, and the couple has a daughter, it added.
After landing at the airport they were further transported to the 7th MR on a Prisoners Van, sources said. It should be mentioned that on November 13, the PLA carried out a deadly ambush on the Assam Rifles convoy in Churachandpur district killing its Commanding officer his wife and minor son and four more soldiers.
Security agencies believe that after the deportation of these five cadres from Myanmar, a lot more information about the organization PLA would be revealed for further operations against it. With agency inputs
