Imphal: Ningol Chakkouba, one of the biggest festivals was celebrated in Manipur.
Married women are invited for a grand feast by their parents and brothers and bestowed with blessings and gifts on the day.
Manipur Governor La Ganesan said that ‘Ningol Chakouba’ rejuvenates family ties and strengthens the bonds of love and affection between brothers and sisters, mothers and daughters and fathers and daughters, helping in the promotion of unity and integrity in society.
It is a very happy and significant occasion on which the married women come to their parental houses along with their children and enjoy a sumptuous feast and receive Dakshina or gifts as a token of love and affection.
Chief Minister N Biren said the celebration of Ningol Chakkouba has now been extended to other communities, states and countries as well though it was primarily a festival of the Meitei community in the beginning, he stated.
The festival also promotes the feeling of peaceful co-existence and harmonious living by reaffirming our faith in the traditional values of love and protection, he further stated.
Special fish fair and sale of goods were organized as people thronged the market to buy goods and eatables.
