Kohima: Union Minister of State for Communications Devusinh Jesingbhai Chauhan has stressed the importance of connectivity in the world’s largest democracy and said in a nation of more than six lakh villages, if connectivity reaches the last mile it means democracy has reached the last mile.
Addressing a joint meeting of State officials and representatives from the Department of Telecommunication and Posts at the Rhododendron Hall of the Police Complex at Chumoukedima in Dimapur Saturday, Chauhan said though providing telecommunication services in the North-Eastern states was challenging due to the geographical conditions, the Ministry has come up with new technologies and innovations to address and resolve the issues.
He assured that there will be increased coverage of Telecommunication network connectivity as well as increase funds for further Telecom development for the State of Nagaland. He reminded that there was no dearth of funds for the improvement of the telecom sector and assured that there would be increased coverage of telecommunication network connectivity across the country and funds for further telecom development in Nagaland.
He MoS said to work online, connectivity is a must. If there is connectivity, all the sectors can deliver service in any circumstances, and encouraged the officials to present to discuss their difficulties and give suggestions so that together they could understand the challenges and come up with solutions to provide better services to the people.
Nagaland Adviser for IT&C Mmhonlumo Kikon in his speech said access to internet connectivity, especially in rural and remote areas of Nagaland still remains a major challenge and stressed the need to take the services of telecommunication to the next level. He also apprised the Union minister on the need for enhancement of telecom infrastructure including bandwidth in the state, an official report said.
