Shillong: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Tuesday said that decision-making process regarding restrictions due the COVID-19 pandemic has been decentralized and Deputy Commissioners of the various districts have been empowered to take decisions in this regard based on local prevailing conditions.

Replying to a question raised by Opposition member Winnerson D Sangma during question hour on the third day of the autumn session, the Chief Minister said the state government officials have been providing their best services to ensure safety of the people over more than one-and-half year now into the pandemic.

Observing that Covid was “still around”, he cautioned that there was a “danger of cases going up as there is talk about a third wave”.

Stating that there was “no perfect solution” to the pandemic, Conrad said night curfew was being continued across the State despite recent fall in the number of daily cases in order to ensure that neither the government nor the public let their guards down.

He emphasized on awareness and alertness to deal with the situation.
