CM Biren, YAS Minister send greetings on National Sports Day

Imphal: Manipur Chief Minister, N Biren Singh has wished sportspersons, gurus and coaches, and every sports-loving person on the occasion of National Sports Day.

In his message on this occasion, N Biren Singh said, “It’s is observed on August 29 every year to commemorate the birth anniversary of Indian Hockey legend Major Dhyan Chand .”  Born on August 29, 1905, in the present-day Prayagraj UP, Major Dhyan Chand was the captain of the gold medal-winning Indian team at the Berlin Olympics in 1936. Dhyan Chand also led the country to three consecutive Olympic gold medals in1928, 1932, and 1936, and in the 1948 London Summer Olympics India defeated hosts great Britain4-0 to win their first Olympic post-independence, he added.

Stating that performance in competition and sports are today benchmarks for a country’s development and welfare, he said Manipur is recognized as the Powerhouse of Indian Sports and that sportspersons from the state have been excelling in the international arena, including  the recent performance in the Tokyo Olympic, 2020..

The Chief Minister further said that “the State Government has been continuously supporting and encouraging our sporting talent in the best way we can, and we will continue to do so. On this day, let us resolve to continue to nurture our sporting talents in every way we can, and see Manipur make its mark in every competitive sports”.

Youth Affairs and Sports Minister, Letpao Haokip also greeted the sportspersons on the occasion of the National Sports Day which to celebrated every year on August 29, the birthday of Indian hockey legend Major Dhyan Chand.In his message, Letpao Haokip said that the recent success of Manipuri players in the recent Tokyo Olympic 2020 is a good testimony to the fact that Manipur is the Powerhouse of Indian sports.

The Minister called on all to encourage the sporting talents of the state and also resolve to take part in sporting activities for a healthy society.
