Shillong: Meghalaya on Tuesday recorded one of the lowest single-day cases of COVID-19 infection at 162, even as the number of active cases came down to 2820 with 268 more recoveries from the viral disease surging the number of recovered cases to 70127 and four deaths taking the fatality count up to 1285.
The State has so far registered 74232 confirmed COVID-19 cases.
Health officials said three of the four COVID-19 inflicted patients who succumbed to the virus had not been vaccinated. Three of the deaths were recorded in East Khasi Hills district and one in West Khasi Hills district.
The new cases of COVID-19 infection detected on Tuesday included 88 in East Khasi Hills district, 20 in West Khasi Hills district, 18 in West Garo Hills district, 10 in West Jaintia Hills district, seven in Ri-Bhoi district, six in South West Garo Hills district, five in South Garo Hills district, four in East Jaintia Hills district and two each in East Garo Hills district and North Garo Hills district.
The number of active COVID-19 cases in East Khasi Hills, which includes state capital Shillong and is the most pandemic-hit district, has also come down to 1423, followed by Ri-Bhoi district with 414 active cases, West Jaintia Hills district with 289 active cases, West Khasi Hills district with 262 active cases, West Garo Hills district with 161 active cases and South West Khasi Hills district with 135 active cases, while the other districts had less than 50 active cases each as per the latest official count.
Meanwhile, of the 9,44,951 persons tested for Covid-19 in the State till today, 8,70,719 were tested negative for the virus.
On the other hand, 32,033 health care workers have received the first dose of the vaccine against COVID-19 and 25,160 have been administered with the second dose, 96,930 front-line workers have got the first jab and 62,005 have taken the second shot and 8,74,326 persons from among the general public have been inoculated with the first dose and 1,99,733 citizens have been fully vaccinated with the second dose across the State till date.
