Aizawl: This afternoon, Miss Lalremsiami, the lone Olympian from the state in Tokyo Summer Olympics and the first woman from the state to have actually played for India in the Olympic finals has returned home. Upon her arrival at Lengpui Airport, she was given a formal state reception normally reserved for the visiting VVIPs from outside the state.
First in line at the reception were the Mizo Hockey Players who had proudly welcomed home their own member on her return after having played for the Indian Women’s National Field Hockey at Women’s Field Hockey Semi-Final, Summer Olympics 2020, Tokyo. They had felicitated her with a ceremonial shawl, “Tawlhlohpuan” which can be translated as “shawl of no retreat or surrender”.
On behalf of the state government, she was received and felicitated by Pu R.Lalzirliana, Power Minister, Pu K.Lalrinliana, Supply Minister, a host of officials, fans, and sporting fraternity of the states. While Pu Robert Romawia Royte, the state’s Sports Minister has given her an official escort from New Delhi to Aizawl.
After her reception, she was escorted by NCC, Hrangbana College, the place where she is studying at present to the Press Conference Hall, Lengpui Airport where she had held Press Conference. Before answering questions from the press she gave a brief report and short address to the gatherings. First, she had expressed her appreciation of all the supports she has received from India and particularly thanked the people of Mizoram for all their supports and prayer. She went on to voice her gratitude towards the monetary supports she has received from the Government of Mizoram under the leadership of Chief Minister Zoramthanga, ably supported by Sports Minister Robert Romawia Royte and all those who are keen for her success. Further, she also reiterated her appreciation for being given group A Gazetted post under Government of Mizoram and her current employer, the Ministry of Railways.
Outside the venue of the official reception, the strong crowd of sports fans gave her a rousing welcome greeting. On her way back to Aizawl, her motorcade was given an escort by 200 strong bikers from Aizawl Thunder – the Aizawl Bullet club.
Sports or no sports fans, everyone alike, youth and senior citizen, the whole of Mizoram were following closely all the progress of the Indian Women’s National Field Hockey Team at the last Summer Olympics. Everyone in the state prayed for the success of Nula Lalremsiami and the Indian Women’s National Field Hockey Team. She is one of the most popular figures in the state right now and everyone is familiar with her humble beginning and most importantly her determination and her remarkable journey to achieve success. A host of felicitations and receptions are already lined up for her everywhere – apart from the grand celebration hosted by Chief Minister Pu Zoramthanga, on the next day followed by the homecoming celebration at Kolasib Town, the place where she lives.
